The Hoover Dam

Spectacular workmanship by Americans for you to admire and enjoy.

Hoover Dam is about 30 miles from the City of Las Vegas. It is really a great man-made piece of work to see.

When you are not gambling, take the kids or family to the dam for some sight-seeing.

This is one of the great Las Vegas attractions, but it's not in the City of Las Vegas itself. It is close to a town called Boulder City. That's why it is called, either, the Hoover or Boulder Dam.

The Visitors Center is open daily,
from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

It is closed on
Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Entry fees:
Adults between 17 and 61 years of age $ 11.
Senior citizens - 62 and up $ 9.
Kids between 4 and 16 years of age $ 9.
Military personnel $ 9.
Military personnel in uniform free.
Free for kids 3 and under.

Tickets are sold until 5:15 p.m.

The busiest periods at the dam are
Memorial Day until Labor Day and during spring break.

January and February are the slowest months of the year.

The least crowded tours at the dam during the day are in the morning,
from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and

afternoon,
from 3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Directions

To get to Hoover Dam, if you are staying on the Las Vegas Strip, take I-15 South to I-215 East for about 10 miles. Take a right hand exit to US 93/US 95 South. This takes you all the way to the dam.

From Downtown, take I-515 South East. It turns into US-93 all the way to the dam.

Note:
Before you reach the dam, you will see the town of Boulder City. This neat, small old town does not allow gambling, but is worth a visit.

As you are leaving Boulder City to go to the dam, you go over a little mountain. At the top you can see the beautiful scenery around Lake Meade. Park your car, walk around and take pictures.

You can go higher up along some steps to take pictures. You are about 8 miles from the dam.

The parking garage next to the Visitors Center at Hoover Dam costs $7 per car and accepts cash only.
It is open, from 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

To see and enjoy it all, plan three hours, so arrive at the dam no later than 2 p.m.

Because of high security, your vehicle might be inspected when you are close to the dam.

Since 9/11, you are no longer able to go with the tour all the way down to the base of the dam.

The weather at the dam is hot in the summer, so have some water with you.
